Attractor Traps Tutorial for UltraFractal - Page 2

 

The Basics

The trap functions of Attractor Traps create a variety of novel shapes. The tutorial will begin with a look at the various trap modes using a single attractor type. When starting to work with any coloring formula I recommend that you uncheck the "repeat gradient" box on the outside tab in UltraFractal and use a simple gray-scale gradient such as "grayscale" in standard.ugr. This will enable you to see the basic shapes without being distracted by the colors. Coloring and textures will be dealt with later. The first set of images were created this way using the Threeply attractor, and the upr shows the basic settings.  The appearance of texture comes from the attractor and not from any other texture additions. The images vary primarily in the Trap mode used. The  trap modes which have automatic masking, use a dark red background to show the masked region. Examine each image carefully to see what differences the trap mode makes.

The next set of images will explore a selection of coloring modes using the Weighted Sum 3 trap mode. Use the upr above to setup the basic image, and check the Repeat gradient box on the outside tab. Try rotating the gradient and varying the color density, if necessary, to achieve the same image as below.
